Redeemer West Side Whole Church Gathering

Took place Monday, June 22, 2020

Since we stopped our in-person worship services in mid-March, this was the first time our whole church had a chance to gather together for a live, virtual meeting.

When we stopped meeting for in-person services, the church did not “close.” The church never closes, because the church is a people, not a building. And over the past three months the Spirit has been working in us and through us. In fact, we believe God has been working in us in specific ways, shaping us for the future that God is calling us into. Consider how the Spirit has:

  • Helped us develop a culture of prayer that hasn’t existed since the earliest days of Redeemer
  • Energized us to study the Bible with joy and humility, in greater numbers than we ever have before
  • Reminded us that the gospel which reconciles us to God also reconciles us to each other — the sin of racism must be confronted inside and outside the church

These are just some of the ways we have seen God’s Spirit at work, forming us for our future. Of course in the midst of these developments, the past three months have been draining and sometimes discouraging. It has been a season of testing and trials, loss and mourning. And yet, we are filled with hope in the God who has promised to never leave or forsake us. God is at work and we’re excited to see what that means for us in this next chapter of our ministry together.

As we said at the beginning of this journey back in March and reiterated above, the church is not a building, it is a people — we are the church. As the church, let’s pay attention to what the Spirit of God has been doing in our church family, and who he is making us into as we prepare for our future.
